Object Description

155 lenses of various sizes, types and shades are framed with gold and silver plate and slotted in vertical rows cut in tray. Box housing tray covered with patterned red leather and lined with red suede and silk. A letter of guarantee from manufacturer E.B. Meyrowitz dated May 10th 1899 accompanied the lenses. Guarantee states 'This is to certify that this set of trial lenses, #925, is of my own manufacture, and I guarantee its correctness in every particular.'

  • History of Use: Used by Dr. G.K. McNaughton [1877-1951], graduated M.D. from McGill University in 1906. He moved to Cumberland B.C. late 1906 and practiced medicine. He was Chief Medical Officer from 1912 until his death in 1951. In 1946, King George VI appointed him to the “Venerable Order of Hospitals of St. John of Jerusalem.”
