Object Description

Microscope [hard coated black enamel and brushed metal] with removable inclined monocular eyepiece tube, quadruple revolving nose piece with screw in covers for 2 objectives, built-in graduated mechanical stage with scales and co-axial control knobs, a spring-loaded clip is used to secure the specimen to the stage holder. Condenser and mounted mirror. 'ZEISS WINKEL' on eyepiece tube, base and stage mechanism with '166450' also on base and stage. Objectives:10x, 40x, 100x with lidded containers ['ZEISS WINKEL' in relief on lid, 'Made in West-Germany' on base]. Eyepieces: 8x, 12.5x ['ZEISS WINKEL' and magnification engraved on top surface]. Carrying case with lock and 4 keys, slide-in objective and lens holder, bottle of immersion oil. Dimensions given are for the microscope.

Acquisition Detail

  • Owner: Dr. Klaas J. Postma
  • History of Use: Born 1930 in Mantgum, Province of Friesalnd, Holland. Emigrated to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 1956 where he started his own practice. In 1962 became Clinical Teacher, College of Medicine, University of Saskatoon and later became Assistant Clinical Professor of Family Medicine. In 1979/80 moved to Vancouver, B.C. to take up a position as Claims Medical Adviser and later as Medical Examiner for the Worker Compensation Board where he stayed until 2001 when he became an independent medical advisor for disability management. Retired 2006.
